Outdoor Activities

Although no experience is necessary, Lifeline’s summer project. outdoor activities are intended to be fun, exhilarating and somewhat challenging. Activities vary from year to year according to the project location. 2011 in Rocky Mountain offers:

Rock Climbing

“I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this.”~ Harry (Dumb and Dumber)

Trust me, this will not be your response when you get to Colorado this summer. The sheer majesty of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park will take your breath away. We have several excellent places to climb in RNP, you will not be disappointed.

Hiking

Rocky Mountain National Park has over 350 miles of hiking trails which range in difficulty from leisurely lakeside strolls to strenuous mountain peak climbs. Altitudes in the park range from 7,500 to 12,000 ft. These trails will provide us with a variety of wonderful opportunities to see the back country. We will hike to alpine lakes, beautiful waterfalls and maybe even a 14,000 ft peak. The scenery will be awe inspiring and the photo ops endless.

Backpacking

We will start off our summer with a three day backpacking trip into Rocky Mountain National Park. You will experience the joys and challenges of “roughing it”. The only resources you have will be those you can carry on your back. True solitude awaits your group as you trek to an out of the way corner of the park and set camp. This is truly one of the most memorable parts of the summer and where much of your groups bonding will occur.

Whitewater Rafting

The Rocky Mountains spend the entire winter collecting snow so that when spring thaws come, we have water in our rivers. June in the Rockies is the perfect time for whitewater rafting, the water is high and the rapids are kickin’. If you come with us this summer you’ll get the chance to try out some of Colorado’s best rafting. With the collegiate peaks in the background and huge waves in the foreground you’ll be in for the ride of your life. Be forewarned, you will get wet on this ride!
